Three years ago, we had no idea where this journey would take us. We began with the humble goal of making Bengali food more known to the world, preserving those treasured family recipes that risk being lost to time.

But now, as I look back at this past year, I realize we’ve grown into something much bigger. We are more than just a platform that shares recipes. We create connections, build community, and bring authentic flavors directly to your kitchen.
The Wannabe Cook has always been more than just a website. It’s the embodiment of every family recipe shared, every spice story told, and every connection made over food. You, our community of passionate home cooks, continue to be the heart and soul of everything we do.
This Year, We Cooked!
This third year has been our most ambitious yet, and honestly, the most exciting. For the first time since our beginning, we stepped beyond the digital realm and brought The Wannabe Cook into the physical world.
We Launched Our First Physical Product!
After two years of existing purely in the digital space through our website, social media, and YouTube, we took a leap of faith in November 2024. We launched our very first physical products – our spice boxes!

We realized that true Bengali flavor needs the right spices, and we wanted to deliver that authenticity directly to your kitchen.
Publishing Our First Books
We also ventured into publishing with not just one, but two books! Our first book, “The Wannabe Cook: 15-Day Wellness & Cooking Challenge,” was born from our commitment to incorporating healthy practices into traditional cooking. We realized that loving food doesn’t mean compromising on health, it means finding that perfect balance.
Our second book, “The Wannabe Cook – Level Up With 8 Spices,” was a natural extension of our spice journey. We wanted to share not just the spices themselves, but the knowledge of how to use them effectively.
Both books started as digital releases and later became physical copies, giving our community options for how they preferred to engage with our content.
The Farmer’s Market Experience – Our Biggest Milestone

But perhaps the most significant event of this year was our participation in the farmer’s market in Columbus. This was the first time we got to meet our community face-to-face as The Wannabe Cook brand, and what an experience it was!

We didn’t just set up a booth – we created an entire experience. We had four different interactive games that brought the essence of Bengali spices to life. The “What Spice Are You?” quiz became an instant hit, with participants taking home goodie bags filled with authentic spices and recipe cards. The “Guess All 8 Spices” challenge tested people’s knowledge while introducing them to the complexity of Bengali cuisine.
Our spice riddles and trivia games created such engaging conversations. Watching people light up when they correctly identified a spice they’d never encountered before, or seeing families working together to solve our riddles. These moments reminded us why we started this journey in the first place.
The farmer’s market wasn’t just about selling products; it was about sharing stories, connecting cultures, and seeing the genuine curiosity people have about Bengali food. We met home cooks from different backgrounds who were eager to learn, families looking to expand their culinary horizons, and fellow food enthusiasts who shared our passion for authentic flavors.
Looking Ahead to Year Four
As we step into our fourth year, we’re more energized than ever. The success of this past year has shown us that there’s a real hunger (pun intended) for authentic Bengali flavors and the stories behind them.
Our spice boxes and books were just the beginning. We’re planning to launch more products that will make authentic Bengali cooking accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live. We want to bridge the gap between traditional recipes and modern kitchens.

We also want to focus on more community connections. The farmer’s market experience was so fulfilling that we’re actively looking for more opportunities to meet you in person. There’s something magical about sharing spice stories face-to-face, watching someone taste a new flavor for the first time, or helping a fellow cook troubleshoot a recipe in real-time.
We haven’t forgotten our original goal either. We’re doubling down on our mission to gather more family recipes from Bangladesh and Bangladeshi communities living abroad. Every recipe we collect is a piece of history preserved, a tradition kept alive. We want to ensure that future generations can access these culinary treasures, no matter where they are in the world.
Our digital recipe collection continues to grow, but we’re not just focused on quantity. We want each recipe to tell a story, to connect you with the culture and history behind the dish. Whether it’s a simple dal or an elaborate biriyani, every recipe deserves to be shared with the care and context it deserves.
