Instructions

For marinade

  • Cut the fish into steaks and wash them and put in in a bowl
  • add turmeric powder, salt and lemon juice and mix with fish
  • marinade for 30 minutes. You can start preparing to cook in the meantime

Cooking time!

  • In a wok pan, heat oil and add garlic cloves, onion and green chili
  • when onions are golden brown, add tomatoes, salt and all three spices powder (cumin, turmeric and chili).
  • sauté in high heat for about 5 minutes and add 1 cup of water. Close lid and let the spices cook for a bit in medium heat. Depending on the stove, it usually takes about 10 minutes for the saute to cook properly. You can tell the spices are almost cooked when oil slowly stars to show up again.
  • Wash the marinade from the fish steaks and place them in the wok. You want to wash so the fish smell goes away.
  • Slowly spread the gravy mix around the fish steaks, add around 2 cups of water and close the lid and let the cooking begin!
  • Cook in medium low for about 15 minutes. Open lid and turn the steaks to cook on the other side. Check to see if you want to add more water depending on your gravy desired level. Cook in medium low for another 10-15 minutes
  • Check to see if the gravy tastes fine and if anything else is needed to add.
  • Garnish with cilantro
