Bengalis’ obsession with fish and vegetables is nothing new. They can combine any kind of vegetable with a fish and make an incredible dish. Indeed, a Bengali family feast gets its true meaning only with the greatest fish dishes from Bangladesh that we have here. Being a Bengali myself, I can testify that one of the coziest, tastiest, comforting meals you can prepare is homemade fish with vegetable curry. They smell incredible, have a ton of flavor, and most recipes let you add or substitute certain items.

I am a big fan of fish curry with vegetables, locally called “Sobji diye macher jhol”. It is the perfect one-pot dish when served with steaming rice. This dish provides a considerable quantity of proteins and nourishment from veggies and fish. The broth also comforts the spirit and fuels you for the rest of your day. This will satisfy your taste buds! There is no question as to why Bangladeshis have a warm spot for this meal.

Coming back to the popularity of this fish curry loaded with vegetables, Bangladesh is a place where you can find a lot of different kinds of vegetables in different seasons. So you get the bonus of using a variety of veggies all year long. However, you may use seasonal veggies or whatever is in your fridge. Any type of vegetable will work here, whether it’s a spring vegetable like peas or spinach, a summer vegetable like zucchini or eggplant, or an autumn vegetable like pumpkin or cauliflower.

Without stressing much, feel free to experiment. To add a boost of vitamins and appearance right at the end, you may always add a few handfuls of coriander leaves.

Not just because of its goodness in health or delicious taste, but its vibrant color is a treat to the eyes. With the delicious fish and plenty of fresh vegetables, this dish stands out from the rest of the dishes on the table. On the other side, I also love the broth of this dish. If you are a Bengali, you obviously have the leftover vegetable and the broth with ruti at breakfast.

Fish curry with vegetables takes me back to my childhood. I can remember when I was a kid I used to cut veggies with my mom. Sometimes, my mom used to give me some of the veggies to practice cutting. What a moment to cherish!

With that being said, you can cut these veggies and store them in the fridge for a quick cook in the morning. I do this trick when I have a busy schedule and I have to cook my meal. I cut everything and freeze it for later use.

Brownie point if you maintain a proper diet, you will definitely love this dish as it contains vegetables and fish which will provide you with the essential nutrients. It’s a two-in-one kinda dish, and the good thing is you can add plenty of vegetables to your favorite fish dish which ensures vast health benefits.

It’s not a hidden secret that vegetables have many health benefits, including lowering blood pressure, lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke, preventing some types of cancer, reducing the risk of eye and digestive problems, and having a beneficial effect on blood sugar, which can help control appetite.

Fish, being a healthy plus to this dish, is one of the world’s healthiest foods. It’s loaded with vital nutrients including vitamin D and protein, omega-3 fatty acids, etc. All of these nutrients are crucial for our body and brain.

I believe that comfort food comes in a variety of forms. Does comfort food have to be simple and fast? I don’t think so. However, every season has its own comfort food. I sometimes think about how our food patterns change based on the time of year and the season. Despite these changes, fish curry and vegetable dishes remain my all-time comfort food.

I’m sharing my comfort dish with you today that you can modify depending on the seasonal veggies that are available. The veggies you add to this fish curry have a big impact on its flavor. I’ve included potatoes, long beans (borboti), and eggplant (begun); you can add anything else that you think will complement the combination. It is a quite flexible dish indeed. I have used bele fish or baila maach here but you can use any of your favorite fish.
